Assistant/Associate Professor (Fish Pathology) Position - University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, Aquaculture/Fisheries Center, Pine Bluff, Arkansas, USA
Appointment:  Twelve month tenure track (45% research, 45% extension and 10% teaching)
Deadline: September 30, 2012 (may be extended until suitable applicant is found)
Qualifications:  DVM or PhD in fish pathology or closely related field is required.  Experience with U.S. commercial aquaculture production is preferred.  
Nature of the Position:  The aquaculture industry in Arkansas is the second largest in the United States and is one of the most diverse.  Commercial fish farms in Arkansas raise catfish, baitfish, goldfish, sportfish fingerlings, hybrid striped bass, largemouth bass raised as foodfish, and fish sold as biocontrol agents.  This tenure track position provides vital extension diagnostic and research support for Arkansas aquaculture.  The successful candidate will oversee the four-lab (Pine Bluff, Lonoke, Lake Village, and Jonesboro) diagnostic system in the state, including fish inspections necessary for certification.   He/she will also be expected to develop a dynamic extension educational program focused on fish health and biosecurity.  The incumbent will develop a productive research program that focuses on priority issues that will result in more effective diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of fish health problems on fish farms.  Responsibilities also include teaching a graduate course in Fish Health (every other year) and an undergraduate Biology of Fishes course once a year.  The faculty member hired will be expected to mentor M.S. and Ph.D. graduate students.
Personal Characteristics: Incumbent must possess the ability to develop effective working relationships with fish farmers, regulatory agencies, county Extension faculty, other Extension specialists, researchers, staff, students, and the general public.  The individual selected must be committed to solve problems on commercial fish farms, to provide a high level of research and extension support to Arkansas aquaculture, and to create an innovative and dynamic environment in the classroom.
